Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350 and prep an baking dish (9 X 13 works well) for nonstick.
- In a medium mixing bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Next, in another medium mixing bowl, whisk or use a fork to mix together the sugar (or alternative) and the unsweetened cocoa.
- Now, in a large mixing bowl, mix together the water, applesauce and oil. Then add to the large mixing bowl the flour mixture from the first bowl, stirring gently and then adding the cocoa and sugar mixture from the second bowl. Add the vanilla extract and mix until blended.
- For adding the chocolate chips, there are two options . You can fold them into the batter or add half of the batter to the prepped baking dish, add the chocolate chips, and then add the remaining batter to the baking dish. The first option will evenly distribute the chips and the second will distribute the chips to the center of the brownies.
- Bake for 26-30 minutes and allow to cool a bit before serving. A toothpick test will most likely not work in this recipe as the chocolate chips may thus give a false negative.
