API Changelog
Version 4.2.0 2026-10-15
Added
-
Meal settings now support
categories, an array of recipe category names to prefer
during generation.
-
Added
POST /gapi/categories/ to list primary category names with at least 20 recipes
matching optional exclusions, preset diet, and meal type settings.
Version 4.1.0 2026-09-16
Added
-
Expanded food responses include
image, a string or null.
The string is a URL-escaped image path relative to https://images.eatthismuch.com/
(for example, `image: "img/generated_food_37812_chicken_wrap_dfa959dc18b8.jpg"`).
Request them with a url like https://images.eatthismuch.com/img/generated_food_37812_chicken_wrap_dfa959dc18b8.jpg.
Version 4.0.1 2026-08-06
Changed
-
Fixed some ingredient amount scaling issues on
/gapi/food/{id}/,
/gapi/food-search/, and expanded generator output.
-
Improved the rounding on ingredient amounts.
-
/gapi/food-search/ nutrition, micronutrients, and display amounts are now properly scaled
to
one serving.
Version 4.0.0 2026-08-05
Breaking Changes
-
/gapi/food/{id}/?amount=x renamed to /gapi/food/{id}/?servings=x to make using
it more clear.
-
meal_settings[].always_recurring_foods[].amount was renamed to
servings, and its units field was removed. Servings use the food's default
units.
Added
-
Generated food objects include the number of servings as
servings. amount
represents the display amount to pair with the units field.
Version 3.0.0 2026-07-31
Breaking Changes
-
Corrected the placement of
preferred_food_type, which was always intended to be part of
meal_settings[] but was mistakenly exposed as a separate top-level option only on
/gapi/generate/meal/ and /gapi/generate/foodobject/. Clients must now pass it
inside meal_settings[]. If omitted, single-item generation continues to
default to all food types.
Version 2.2.0 2026-07-30
Added
-
Meal settings now support
only_use_recurring. When enabled, generation uses only the
recurring foods and recurring collections configured for that meal.
Changed
-
meal_settings[].meal_number is now ignored by
/gapi/generate/meal/ and /gapi/generate/foodobject/; these endpoints always
treat it as 1.
-
Removed amount and units from
meal_settings[].often_recurring_foods doc description as they
were not actually used by the generator for often recurring foods, only always recurring foods.
Version 2.1.0 2026-07-28
Added
-
Added
GET /gapi/food-search/ for searching recipes, basic foods, branded foods, and
restaurant foods. Search results use the expanded food response format and include pagination
metadata.
-
Food search supports category, dish type, meal type, and calorie-range filters.
-
Expanded food responses now include the food
description.
Changed
-
GET /gapi/food/{id}/ now accepts an optional amount query parameter that
scales calories, macronutrients, micronutrients, and recipe ingredient amounts to the requested
quantity in the food's default units.
Version 2.0.0 2026-07-14
Changed
-
Generation output options are now all query parameters, separate from
the JSON input used to control meal generation.
-
The
include_groceries option on /gapi/generate/week/ was moved from the JSON
input to a query parameter.
-
Generated week grocery output now appears as
data.groceries, beside
data.results, instead of under meta.groceries.
-
Generate endpoint examples now show output options in the request URL, such as
/gapi/generate/week/?output=html&format=condensed&include_groceries=false.
