  1. 1. Soak the dry Dal for at least 2 hours 2. Pressure cook the Dal for 25 minutes, using about double the amount of Dal in water 3. Meanwhile, chop an onion and a tomato 4. Put peanut oil in a large pan, add oil, mustard seeds, koriander seeds, and a few curry leaves 5. After 30 seconds or so, add onions and saute 6. Add ginger garlic paste, let it sit for 1 minute or so, stir well 7. Add tomato, leave for another 2-3 minutes 8. Add the spices. If needed add a little water so it doesn't burn. 9. Once the Dal is done, add it along with 1 or 2 cups of water 10. Cook rice 11. Let it simmer until the Dal has thickened to the desired consistency 12. Serve with rice
