  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F with the rack in the middle position. Chop the garlic cloves, onions, tomatoes, and dill. Peel and devein the shrimp.
  2. In a 4-quart heavy saucepan, cook the onion and garlic in olive oil with 1/4 teaspoon salt over medium heat until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the spices and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Add the chopped tomatoes with their juice and sugar, then simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat.
  4. Season the shrimp with 1/8 teaspoon salt, then stir into the tomato sauce. Transfer to a 2-quart shallow baking dish and top with crumbled feta cheese.
  5. Bake until the shrimp are just cooked through, about 18 to 20 minutes. Serve sprinkled with fresh dill.
