  1. Trim the ends from the green beans, then cut them into 1/2 inch pieces.
  2. Bring a 3- to 4-quart pot of well-salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook uncovered for 4 to 5 minutes until barely tender.
  3. Add the peas to the pot and continue cooking uncovered for 2 to 3 minutes until both the beans and peas are tender.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the butter and lemon zest.
  5. Drain the vegetables and add them to the bowl with the butter and zest. Toss until the vegetables are well coated.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then serve.
