- Soak the Moong dal in water for 30 minutes
- In a pan, heat ghee and then add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and wait to splutter. Add chopped onion and sauté till it turns light pink. Further add tomatoes and sauté for another 2 minutes. To this add red chili powder and mix it well. Sauté it for another 3 minutes and keep the sautéed mixture aside
- In another vessel, boil water and add Moong dal, keep it between medium to high and let it boil till it’s cooked to a consistency where it can be mashed
- Once the dal is cooked, mash it well and add salt. To this, add the sautéed mixture and mix it well. Dal tadka is ready
