  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions, reserving 1 cup of the cooking water before draining.
  2. In a 12-inch heavy skillet, heat olive oil over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking. Sauté the shrimp, turning once, until just cooked through, about 2 minutes. Transfer the shrimp with a slotted spoon to a large bowl.
  3. Crush the garlic cloves using a garlic press and add to the oil remaining in the skillet along with red pepper flakes, white wine, and salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Cook over high heat, stirring occasionally, for 1 minute. Add butter to the skillet, stirring until melted, then return the shrimp to the skillet. Remove from heat.
  5. In a large bowl, toss the pasta with the shrimp mixture and parsley, adding some of the reserved cooking water if necessary to keep it moist.
