  1. Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil and cook the spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Reserve a small splash of pasta water if desired, then drain.
  2. Meanwhile, heat half of the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sliced mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender and lightly browned, 6–8 minutes. Stir in the garlic powder during the last minute of cooking.
  3. Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the remaining oil and toss to coat, loosening with a splash of reserved pasta water if needed. Adjust seasoning to taste and serve warm.
