  1. Wash, peel, and chop the carrots and potatoes. Thinly slice the leeks and chop the dill. Slice the asparagus. Drain and rinse the beans. Set aside.
  2. In an 8-quart sauce pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the carrots, leeks, fresh thyme, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Cook for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the red potatoes and chicken broth. Partially cover and bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for 25 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
  4. Add the asparagus and simmer for 3 minutes or until tender. Discard the thyme. Stir in the navy beans, fresh dill, remaining salt, and pepper.
