Recipe Clipper Privacy Notice

This notice describes how the Eat This Much Recipe Clipper browser extension handles information. It supplements the general Eat This Much Privacy Policy, which applies when information is sent to or stored by Eat This Much.

What the Recipe Clipper does

The Recipe Clipper helps you create an editable Eat This Much recipe from a recipe page you choose. It does not crawl websites, build a history of the pages you visit, or monitor your browsing in the background.

When you open the Recipe Clipper, it reads the current page locally to find recipe information and an associated image. No page content is sent to Eat This Much unless you select Review in Eat This Much.

Information sent to Eat This Much

If you select Review in Eat This Much, the extension sends the following information to the Eat This Much import page:

  • The source page URL and its canonical URL, when provided by the page;
  • The page HTML, which the import service uses to identify recipe fields such as the name, ingredients, directions, servings, and preparation times; and
  • The selected recipe image, when available. Some images require you to grant the extension access to the website hosting the image.

Eat This Much uses this information to prepare a recipe import for you to review and edit. The recipe is not saved until you choose to save it. The source URL is included with the imported recipe so its origin can be identified.

Browser permissions

The Recipe Clipper uses browser permissions for the following purposes:

  • Access to the active tab lets the extension read only the page where you opened the Recipe Clipper.
  • Script access runs the recipe-capture code included with the extension on that page.
  • Session storage temporarily holds one pending import while the Eat This Much import page opens.
  • Access to Eat This Much lets the extension deliver the pending import to the import page.
  • Optional access to an image host is requested only when browser security rules prevent the extension from reading the selected recipe image. If you decline, the recipe can still be imported without that image.

Storage and retention

Before you choose to review an import, captured information is held only in the extension popup. When the Eat This Much import page opens, the pending import is temporarily held in browser session storage. It becomes unavailable after two hours and is removed after a successful save or when the browser session storage is cleared.

The Eat This Much import service processes the page HTML to prepare the editable recipe. If you save the recipe, its imported fields, source URL, and selected image become part of your Eat This Much account. Eat This Much's handling of that account data is described in the general Privacy Policy.

Sharing and advertising

The Recipe Clipper sends captured recipe information to Eat This Much only to provide the import you requested. It does not send captured recipe content to advertising companies or use it to track your activity across websites. Any service providers used by Eat This Much are governed by the general Privacy Policy.

Your choices

  • You can close the extension popup without sending the page to Eat This Much.
  • You can decline optional image-host access and continue without the image.
  • You can review and edit the imported recipe before saving it.
  • You can remove the extension through your browser at any time.

Recipe sources and copyright

The Recipe Clipper acts only on pages you choose, and the source URL is included with the import. Using the Recipe Clipper does not change ownership of content from the source page. You should import only content you have the right to use, as described in our Terms of Service. For information about reporting copyright concerns, see our Copyright Policy.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice if the Recipe Clipper or its information practices change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. We will provide additional notice or request additional consent when required.
