  1. Heat coconut oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add cayenne, cumin, and turmeric, and stir until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, and chopped ginger. Cook, stirring, until softened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add grated apple and lentils, stirring to coat.
  4. Stir in coconut milk and broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until lentils are soft and dal is thick, 20-25 minutes. Add lime juice, salt, and pepper to taste.
  5. Divide the dal among bowls. Top with yogurt and fresh chopped cilantro, and serve.
