  1. Slice the raw Italian sausage into 1/2-inch rounds. Add oil into a large skillet over medium heat to preheat.
  2. Add the sliced sausage and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and much of the fat has rendered, 5–7 minutes. If there is excessive fat, spoon off a bit.
  3. Add the sliced red bell peppers and toss to coat in the drippings.
  4. Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper; stir to distribute the seasonings evenly.
  5. Sauté, stirring occasionally, until the peppers are tender and the sausage is cooked through with no pink remaining, 10–12 minutes.
