Directions
- Preheat the broiler to high.
- Heat about ½ inch of canola oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pan to 350°F.
- Drain and pat dry the tofu. Slice into thin strips resembling french fries, then season with salt and pepper.
- Carefully place the tofu strips into the hot oil and deep fry until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.
- Remove the fried tofu from the oil and spread on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Place the baking sheet under the preheated broiler and melt the cheese until bubbly and slightly browned.
- Remove from the broiler and transfer the cheesy tofu fries to a serving plate.
- Serve immediately, topped with sour cream and chopped scallions.
